What is an Ayra Digital Trust Ecosystems

The term "ecosystem" is over-used. We provide a definition of an Ayra Digital Trust Ecosystem (Ayra DTE) to help refine understanding of where Ayra fits.

The following is an early definition and will likely churn quickly.

Many ecosystems exist and are being formed. But where does Ayra apply?

Let's start with the term "ecosystem". It is over-used, but as a term, it is helpful.

Ayra uses the term "Ayra digital trust ecosystem" (Ayra DTE) to define where Ayra applies and where it may not.

Aspects Of An Ayra Digital Trust Ecosystem

These bullets are not exhaustive and reflect early thinking about what the key aspects are of an Ayra Digital Trust Ecosystem. Typically, many or all of the following is true:

  • Multiple Stakeholder Types - we use the term "multi-stakeholder" as a short-form to indicate that multiple types of stakeholders should be present in an ecosystem for it to be an Ayra DTE. If there is only one kind of stakeholder (e.g. a technology provider) then there may be an ecosystem but there may not be problems that need the business, governance, and technology rigour that Ayra brings.

  • Contain or require valuable information - digital ecosystems create information that is usually of value to some or all of the players in an ecosystem. The question is, is that information valuable anywhere else? If it is, we may have an Ayra DTE. If the information is only valuable inside the ecosystem, we may still have an Ayra DTE but will need to look at other dimensions to be sure.

  • Liability - an Ayra DTE may consider liability and indemnity, which are often proxies for value.

  • Open - an Ayra DTE is open to qualified participants joining in various roles of the ecosystem.

  • Not (likely) a Platform - where there is a single player controlling an underlying platform, we don't have open ecosystem dynamics as the single player controls the underlying platform.

  • Beyond the scope of a single organization - there is no single organization that can address all of the challenges the ecosystem addresses. If a single organization can address all of the challenges, we likely have a platform.

    • "This transition requires thinking beyond the boundaries of a single organization: no single organization can address the challenges we face nowadays." [Boundaryless]

  • Competitors - an Ayra digital trust ecosystem makes room for competitors to be active members in at least one role in the ecosystem.
